The American University of Paris invites applications for a full-time position in the Department of Computer Science, Mathematics and Environmental Science at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning 1 August 2026.

Qualifications :

Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in computer science, data science, or a related discipline by the time of appointment (1 August 2026) and show a proven capacity for engaged teaching and research, as well as proven experience related to the specialization areas listed below. Although we are looking for a technical profile, a strong interdisciplinary interest is an asset. Teaching experience or familiarity with liberal arts education is desirable. The candidate must be able to speak and write in fluent English. The ability to speak French is recommended but not required.

Candidates should provide proof of excellence in teaching. They should show expertise in their specific area and experience in Data Science and / or Software development, including academic publications and contributions to codebases in publicly accessible repositories. Dossiers showing teaching, research, or industrial experience related to one or more of the following specialization areas are of particular interest :

Advanced techniques for data storage / retrieval / processing / visualization on large scale.

Cybersecurity

Software engineering

Machine / deep learning

Technical aspects of human computer interaction (HRI, multi-modal, conversational agents, etc.).

The Department :

Cherishing the ideals of the liberal arts, the Department of Computer Science, Mathematics and Environmental Science aims for a contextualized and active learning approach. Emphasizing interdisciplinary education and research, the department maintains close ties with other departments within the University as well as with research centers, universities, and industry in Europe and all over the world. The full-time faculty in the department have expertise in a diverse collection of disciplines including artificial intelligence, automated reasoning, human-computer interaction, number theory, group theory, statistics, operations research, astronomy, ecology, evolutionary biology and climate modelling.The department hosts a major in Computer Science as well as interdisciplinary majors in Data Science and the Environment, Mathematics and Computer Science, and Environmental Studies along with five minors. The master's program in Human Rights and Data Science is housed in the department which also has a small but growing curriculum in Data Science. The department contributes to AUPs innovative Global Liberal Arts Core Curriculum by providing AUP students with skills for quantitative, experimental and abstract reasoning; comprehension, analysis, and integration of knowledge; digital literacy and critical thinking; and skills to formulate and efficiently solve problems.

Responsibilities :

• The teaching load is equivalent to six courses per academic year.
