Mission

We are seeking a talented BiW Design Engineer to join our team! In this role, you will be responsible for leading technical and economic studies, focusing on manufacturing processes and product design optimisation in the automotive industry. Collaborating within an international environment, you will support A2Mac1 and our clients by delivering in-depth technical and cost analysis , benchmarking studies , and generate  recommendations to optimize  costs and performance. Tasks & Responsibilities :

  • Analyse the cost structure of competitors' and customers' BiW technical details, focusing on product design, materials, manufacturing processes, purchased components, and supply chain;
  • Develop the cost structure in alignment with BiW costing guidelines and the industrial process flow;
  • Analyse competitors and technology trends to identify innovative designs and cost-effective solutions;
  • Lead the continuous improvement of costing tools to enhance their accuracy, efficiency, and effectiveness;
  • Develop concise, efficient, and comprehensive costing and technical recommendation reports, and deliver clear, impactful presentations to the customer;
  • Collaborate with and challenge project stakeholders, including engineering, industrial plants, purchasing, and logistics teams, to drive negotiations and design-to-cost initiatives;
  • Promote knowledge sharing , onboarding and training new team members and transfer across teams in India, China, Mexico, France, and Germany.

Project Management :

  • Actively engage in all phases of the project development lifecycle, including planning, requirements gathering, development, testing, and implementation;
  • Oversee project progress, ensuring alignment with deliverables, milestones, and timelines while proactively addressing potential risks or delays;
  • Represent project updates effectively by participating in meetings and providing clear, concise status reports to stakeholders;
  • Analyse and communicate cost data to inform decisions, offering actionable recommendations and implementing cost-effective solutions;
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of project metrics, fostering transparency and driving project success.
  • Requirements

    Professional Background :

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience as BiW Design Engineer;
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, or Mechatronics Engineering;
  • Strong expertise in the automotive industry and automotive components;
  • 10 years of experience in the automotive industry or a related field, preferably with OEMs or Tier 1 suppliers, working within engineering and project departments;
  • Strong expertise in 3-4 key manufacturing processes, including casting, painting, extrusion, stamping, forming, assembly, welding, and other key automotive technologies;
  • Structural Design Considerations : Crashworthiness, Weight reduction, Stiffness and Strength, Durability, Sustainability…;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Body-in-White (BiW) materials, including steel grades, aluminium, and material substitution strategies;
  • Understanding of key cost drivers, including material costs, process costs (tooling investments, cycle times, energy consumption), labor costs, logistics, and supply chain expenses.
  • Skills & Abilities :

  • Strong technical curiosity, with a willingness to learn quickly and a hands-on, player / coach mentality;
  • Excellent analytical and synthesis skills, and excellent cross cultural communication;
  • Customer-oriented working style;
  • Open-minded and enthusiastic personality with self-confidence;
  • Ability to lead oneself and others effectively;
  • Willingness to travel regularly and spend time on customer sites globally;
  • Fluent in written and spoken English (minimum B2 level); French is a plus
