The Role
We are seeking a passionate and brilliant individual to join us and take ownership of a high-impact project in Enzyme Engineering. You will work directly with our Biocatalyst Scientist on developing and implementing our next-generation screening workflow. The success of this project will have an immediate impact on our core R&D direction.
Key Responsibilities
As a Research Assistant, you'll be essential in moving our enzyme technologies from the lab to scalable application over the two-year contract period.
- Optimize Biocatalytic Processes: Design and refine biocatalytic methods to ensure efficiency and scalability. This involves:
- Conducting detailed enzyme characterization.
- Optimizing reaction conditions.
- Testing enzyme activity under various stress conditions.
- Analytical Chemistry: Develop and optimize analytical methods for precisely measuring product formation and/or substrate consumption, using techniques like HPLC, GC-FID, and LC/GC-MS.
- Data Collection & Analysis: Accurately record all experimental procedures, observations, and results. Analyze and interpret scientific data using statistical methods and software tools.
- Documentation & Reporting: Prepare clear, concise reports, summaries, and presentations to effectively communicate research findings and progress to the team.
- Startup Flexibility: As an early hire at a startup, be adaptable and willing to take on various responsibilities beyond your core expertise.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, biology, biotechnology, or a related field with 3 to 5 years of relevant experience.
- OR
- Master’s degree or equivalent in a related field with 1 to 3 years of relevant experience.
Required Skills
- Enzyme Assay Expertise: Proven experience in designing, conducting, and analyzing enzyme assays to investigate enzyme kinetics, stability, and activity.
- Data Interpretation: Strong ability to analyze and interpret complex scientific data using statistical methods and appropriate software tools.
- Communication: Effective communication skills and the ability to interpret and share results concisely with a multidisciplinary team.
- Teamwork & Safety: Strong teamwork skills with the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and a commitment to maintaining rigorous laboratory safety protocols.
Desired Skills (A Plus)
- Experience in the construction of recombinant strains (e.g., PCR, cloning, DNA extraction/purification, transformation).
- Experience in the production of recombinant proteins in E. coli and/or Pichia pastoris (e.g., cell culture and protein purification).
