It is a joint research unit attached to the CNRS (Ecology & Environment), the University of Bordeaux and the Ministry of Culture. At the interface of biological, environmental and human sciences, its work addresses major questions related to the factors that have shaped humanity, enabling our ancestors to settle on all continents thanks to adaptive capacities whose diversity we are currently exploring.

Part of the project GenoMorph, funded by the National Research Agency, we are recruiting a Post-Doctoral Research in Genetics applied to archaeology W/M.

This projet is led by Dr. Clément Zanolli.

Votre mission

The research work will consist of analyzing the DNA of several hundred humans for whom CBCT scans of their teeth are available. The postdoctoral researcher will therefore be responsible for genetic analysis (including selection, sorting, and elaboration of a genetic database) and will collaborate with other researchers involved in this project to combine molecular and morphometric data.

The main tasks will consist of:

• processing and analyzing genetic data from hundreds of individuals who volunteered to participate in the GenoMorph project.

• Identifying candidate genes related to dental morphology and structure

• methodological development for the combined analysis of genetic and morphometric data

• genotype inferences based on the phenotype of specimens from the paleoanthropological record

• processing and analysis of data from scans (optional : Depending on the experience and skills of the person recruited, they may be required to process and analyse 3D data from scans.)

Vos atouts / Vos talents

Holder of a PhD in Genetics / Anthropology, you have proven experience in processing genetic data (and ideally 3D virtual imaging data). You will work on the study of the DNA of several hundred current humans and will conduct these analyses in parallel with morphometric data from dental CBCT scans.

• Knowledge: Handling and analysis of genetic data, and how to interpret them

• Technical Skills: DNA data analysis

• Interpersonal Skills: Communication skills to facilitate the scientific collaboration among the GenoMorph consortium

• Languages: English / French

Primary workplace: Laboratory PACEA (UMR 5199), University of Bordeaux
20-month fixed-term contract

Salary gross: 2750 € to 3000€ /month based on experience relative to the University of Bordeaux salary grid

You will work under the supervision of Dr. Zanolli and will have the opportunity to collaborate with the researchers associated to GenoMorph. You also will benefit from a suitable working environment, will have access to a dedicated workstation for their work, and will be able to exchange ideas and collaborate with specialists from various disciplines, including (paleo)genetics, paleoanthropology, and archaeology.
