CONTEXT

Reforest’Action is linking its activities to the Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM). It intends to use carbon finance as a tool to leverage development of forest-related projects with outstanding value for communities, soil, biodiversity, and climate.

The VCM is a market-based tool designed to channel financial flows towards mitigation solutions including enhancement of natural carbon pools.

It allows individuals and organizations to finance Nature Based Solution projects with demonstrated carbon removals. The VCM is expected to grow 15-fold by 2030 and demand for forest-based projects is already driving the development of our reforestation and afforestation activities.

In this context of fast-growth, Reforest’Action is seeking a Nature Based Solutions Project Manager to lead AFOLU project certification under Voluntary Carbon Market standards.

The Carbon Project Manager intervenes throughout the project development cycle and manages the project implementation and its carbon certification in a way to ensure timely generation of carbon credits.

YOUR KEY MISSIONS

• Build in-depth knowledge of existing AFOLU (Agroforestry, Forestry and Other Land Use) methodologies for project certification under the VCS, Gold Standard and other VCM standards if needed;
• Assess new AFOLU project opportunities and conduct opportunity and feasibility studies, from an operational, technical and a financial standpoint, in the prospect of project investment from Reforest’Action’s clients;
• Develop and negotiate contracting documents with project implementers;
• In close collaboration with local project officers, make sure project design, implementation and monitoring are in line with Voluntary Carbon Market standards and methodologies requirements;
• Draft all the project documentation, as required as part of the certification cycle;
• Follow-up on project activities in a way to ensure timely achievement of operational milestones in the project preparation and implementation phases in coordination with Project officers and Project Implementers.
• Follow-up on financial execution in close collaboration with the financial department;
• Coordinate third-party audits and reviews by the standard (desk review and field audits);
• Perform watch on new standards’ initiatives including new methodologies, digital monitoring / remote sensing, standards evolutions, in a way to stay at the state of the art in certification of AFOLU projects;
• Through technical input on projects under your responsibility, collaborate with other teams, including communications, sales, credits procurement, etc.

PROFILE

Qualifications and experiences

• Engineering degree in either in agronomy or physics;
• years work experience in climate / carbon consulting focused on VCM for AFOLU project development in tropical areas;
• Demonstrated experience in management of certification and / or complex and large-scale carbon projects (>

1000ha) in an international context, as well as experience in building quantitative models for the certification.

Your skills & attitudes

• Excellent understanding of carbon markets, forest ecosystems, and of climate / environmental stakes in general; Interest in technical and scientific work
• Rigor, attention to detail; excellent analytical skills;
• Curiosity, ability to learn in autonomy and to deliver on topics recently learnt;
• Willingness to travel abroad and work on the field when needed (typically 1-2 weeks 1 to 3 times a year);
• Fluency in English is required . French, Spanish or Portuguese is a plus.
